Grady breaks Hawks’ discus school record, SH wins team title at B-K
BELMOND — No matter the sport, Mackenzy Grady wears her heart on her sleeve. Happy, sad, mad — whatever the emotion, you know it immediately.
She took her level of excitement to new heights on Friday when she became a South Hamilton school record holder at the Bronco Relays. With a spin, a grunt and a heave, Grady bested Lily Skartvedt’s previous school record discus toss of 121 feet, 2 inches when her gold-medal-winning throw measured 121-23⁄4.
South Hamilton won its third team title of the season behind eight event victories. Caleigh Hewitt (high jump) and Anna Lammers (800-meter run) joined Grady as individual gold medalists. The Hawks also rolled in five of the relays — the sprint medley, 4×800, distance medley, 4×200 and 4×100.
Kate Barkema, Kelbe Krumm and Tanna Thompson were all members of three of the winning relays. Ashlyn Erickson and Emma Lewis were on two.
