Depth gives WCHS the upper hand in road win over Lions

Rattenborg and Schwering among four players at top of leaderboard

CLEAR LAKE — The card-off may not have gone the Webster City boys’ golf team’s way, but the outcome did swing in the Lynx favor on Tuesday at Veterans Golf Course.

Five WCHS players were separated by just three strokes and that balance enabled it to pull out a North Central Conference dual-meet victory on unfamiliar terrain.

The Lynx posted a 173 to knock off Clear Lake (176) by three shots.

Chase Rattenborg and Drew Schwering both shot rounds of 42, as did Clear Lake’s Andrew Crane and Eric Ritter. Crane grabbed the medalist honor and Ritter was the runner-up following the card-off.

Both Rattenborg and Schwering posted four pars during their round. Rattenborg, playing in the No. 1 slot, had a chance to turn in his best round of the season before he ended with four consecutive bogeys.

Trey Lyons, the Lynx leader at last week’s Woodward-Granger Invite, was next in with a 44. Garrett Arnold and Beau Klaver shot 45s.
