Central Iowa United — a virtual all-star team comprised of players from Collins-Maxwell, Baxter, Colo-NESCO, West Marshall and Colfax-Mingo — used the blitz late in the first half to build a 6-0 lead and it kept the match at a shutout in the second half, 8-0.

“They’re a good, disciplined team,” WCHS interim head coach Chad Vogelbacher said. “They were where they were supposed to be and they wore us out a little bit. We had that one terrible stretch and that really deflated us going into halftime, but the girls rallied and played a great second half.”

Central Iowa United rattled off 24 shots on goal to just five for WCHS (0-2). Rori Snethen and Katie Piaszynski each got a half in goal for the Lynx and combined for 16 saves. Snethen collected five in the opening half and Piaszynski snagged 11 of the 13 shots sent her way over the final

“They both had great games,” Vogelbacher said. “We had great effort, but they just kept the pressure on us all night long.”

Brooke Christie scored a pair of goals for Central Iowa United.

A longtime assistant coach, Vogelbacher was making his debut in charge of the program after the resignation of Paul Baedke on Monday. Vogelbacher admitted to being nervous, but the excitement topped the butterflies.

“I was really thrilled and I couldn’t wait to go,” Vogelbacher said. “I was a little nervous with this being my first time as a head coach, but I was more excited than nervous.”

Vogelbacher also said he’s brought on former Lynx player Kennedy Daniels as an assistant coach for the remainder of the season.
