Webster City’s junior thrower had the best performance of his career during the Lynx season debut at the Nielsen Family Boys’ Indoor, as he repeatedly broke his personal best in the shot put en route to the top prize.

Moore’s best toss of 53 feet, 7 inches would have been good enough to place second in Class 3A at the most recent state track and field meet in 2019 and will likely be good enough to qualify for the Drake Relays next month.

“He’s been really focused and (throws) coach (Clint) Howard has done a great job of getting him ready,” WCHS boys’ head coach Chad Hisler said. “Coach Howard knew he had this potential and we thought he could throw that far, but until it actually happened you just never know. So it’s an exciting start and hopefully he can build off that.”

WCHS had six top-three finishes and it compiled 66 points to finish third among the nine teams in attendance. Humboldt (138) and Carlisle (110) occupied the first and second slots.

Jose Ramirez earned a silver medal in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:02.22, and the Lynx 4×200 relay matched that effort in 1:41.41. CJ Hisler, Kaiyu Levongkhom, Riley LaSourd and Trey Mathis worked together on the relay.

Levongkhom finished third in the 60 hurdles (9.26 seconds), and he joined Chris Martinez, Carson Koeppen and Aiden Feltz on the bronze medal shuttle hurdle relay (42.84). Jacob Willson also earned a third-place medal in the 800 (2:13.95).

WCHS is scheduled to open up the outdoor season in Eagle Grove on Tuesday, April 6.
