ABBY’S A RUNNER
Hawks’ Ervin signs with Northwestern College; will compete in XC, track
JEWELL — Abby Ervin isn’t done running quite yet.
A multiple-sport athlete at South Hamilton, the senior officially signed last Wednesday to run cross county and track at Northwestern College in Orange City beginning in the fall.
Ervin was joined at the signing by her parents, Scott and Paula, as well as her two older sisters, Allyson and Anna.
“I chose Northwestern because of the faith emphasis, the beautiful campus and community atmosphere,” Abby Ervin, who plans to study exercise science and health in college, said. “I am excited to grow academically, athletically and spiritually at Northwestern.”
A 13-time letter winner at South Hamilton, Ervin also played basketball and softball for the Hawks.
The Hawks’ cross country leader since early in her prep career, Ervin owns the girls’ school record in the 5K (21:45). A knee injury as a junior slowed her somewhat this past fall, but she was named the team captain and remained a contributing member throughout the campaign.
“We are excited to have Abby joining our women’s cross country and track and field teams at Northwestern College,” Raiders’ head cross country coach Scott Bahrke said. “She loves to run and compete and will make a wonderful addition to our program and campus.”
