Seniors, Stuhr guide Lynx past Boone, 57-46

WEBSTER CITY — Playing in front of their home fans for the final time, Webster City seniors Tyler Olson, Trey Lyons and Tavis Eklund stepped into the spotlight and shined last night.

The trio combined for 31 points and contributed key components in the Lynx 57-46 victory over non-conference opponent Boone.

Olson poured in 15 points and took the defensive assignment on Boone leader Evan Behn, who finished with just six points. Lyons canned three 3-pointers and reached double figures with 11 points, and Eklund put the victory on ice at the free throw line late with five makes.

“It was nice to get a win in our last home game of the year and our three seniors played very well,” WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said.

Olson played at the high post for WCHS (7-11) against Boone’s zone and carved it up with mid-range jumpers and drives to the bucket. He and Ty McKinney also repeatedly found junior forward Jamin Stuhr open on the baseline, and Stuhr scored a game-high 18 points.

“When (Stuhr) gets going and gets after it, he’s really active,” McKinney said. “Guys were looking for him and he got it rolling.”

Tegan Bock led Boone (6-14) with 11 points and Nathaniel Winter added nine.

WCHS led 27-23 at the half and 41-35 after three quarters.

Boone has tagged with 22 fouls, as well as three technical fouls. The Lynx owned a 12-0 scoring advantage at the charity stripe.

WCHS will wrap up the regular season tonight against Hampton-Dumont/CAL in Hampton. The Lynx will travel to Humboldt on Monday for a Class 3A substate quarterfinal.
