PERRY — The South Hamilton girls’ basketball team may not have started out well, but it certainly ended the way head coach Mark Henderson wanted here Monday night.

The result? A fourth consecutive victory.

Trailing 22-17 at the half and 37-36 with five minutes remaining, the Hawks ended the contest on a 13-0 spurt to knock off non-conference foe Perry, 49-37. South Hamilton (6-6), which evened its record for the first time this season, outscored the Blue Jays 32-15 over the final 16 minutes.

“It’s always good to grind out a win on a night when you don’t necessarily play your best,” Henderson said. “We didn’t have a great first half, but the girls turned it around in the second half and finished strong.”

Emma Lewis was the Hawks’ catalyst all night, especially during the final period. She scored a team-high 10 points, seven of them coming over the final stretch. The senior also pulled down nine rebounds and collected three steals.

“Emma hit a couple of really big 3s and fought hard for some offensive rebounds,” Henderson said.

Makena Galetich registered nine points and six steals in the win. Ashlyn Erickson had eight points and Mackenzy Grady finished with seven points, three steals and three assists. Caleigh Hewitt and Tanna Thompson chipped in six points each; Hewitt corralled seven boards.

Perry (1-8) got the majority of its scoring from two players. Jayna Kenney poured in 13 and it was her 3-pointer that gave the Blue Jays a one-point lead before South Hamilton closed strong. Lydia Olejniczak scored 12 points.
