WOODWARD — Pins, pins and more pins.

Webster City cranked out eight of them Thursday night and claimed nine of the 14 weights to cruise by Woodward-Granger, 51-22, in a non-conference dual.

After splitting the opening eight bouts — the dual began at 145 pounds — WCHS rode the light weights to what turned out to be a runaway win. The Lynx (8-2) won five of the final six matches, all by fall, and their seventh consecutive dual. They haven’t dropped a dual since before the Christmas break.

“I thought we came out and competed at every weight,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “You’re always trying to get bonus points and we were dominant in that part of the game. That was great to see.”

Sixth-ranked (Class 2A) Carson Doolittle (106) ignited the late charge. His decking of Alex Saxton in 4:17 increased the Lynx lead to 27-18.

Top-ranked Cam Phetxoumphone (113) followed with his own pin. He led 10th-ranked Payton Nixon 14-3 when he ended it for his 59th consecutive victory. He’s now 98-6 in his career.

Brayden Henely (120), seventh-ranked Chase Rattenborg (132) and Austin Mason (138) rattled off pins late in the dual as well to extend the margin.

Jordan Vankham (145), ninth-ranked CJ Hisler (182) and Trey Shannon (220) all won by fall as well. Evan Estlund (152) picked up a 7-2 win over Brayden Simons.

“It was good to get in the right frame of mind and get ready to compete on Saturday (at the North Central Conference tournament),” Hisler said.
