Mistakes pile up, Lynx falter against Garrigan
Golden Bears take non-conference bout in 4 sets
ALGONA — Mistakes mounted with each set for the Webster City volleyball team, more than it could overcome, here Monday night.
The Lynx committed 42 attack errors and eight more miscues from behind the service line in a 3-1 non-conference loss to Algona Garrigan. And head coach Jess Howard was ready to move on before the team bus had even made its way back to Webster City.
“We have to have a short-term memory,” Howard, who had her team back out on the road last night against North Central Conference rival Clear Lake, said following the 25-22, 24-26, 25-12, 25-22 setback. “We need to learn from it, but at the same time we need to forget it and move on.
“I just think our inconsistencies held us back a little bit in terms of being able to score points. We did a good job of competing through point 20, but we’ve got to make sure we’ve got that fight at the end to come out on top.”
Faith Anderson laced a team-high 10 kills for WCHS (10-12) and Sierra Rattenborg thumped nine more. Livia Kasch added six, Joslin Gourley had five and Reese Casey four.
But the 36 team kills were dwarfed by the errors, leading to a negative .044 kill efficiency.
All-state basketball player and Division I prospect Audi Crooks, just a sophomore, led Garrigan (11-9) with 13 kills. Kaylyn Meyers pumped in eight more.
Lynx all-time digs leader Alayna Finucan again led the defense with 22 digs. Kelly Stoakes collected 15 and Jenna Miller had 10 to go along with 13 assists. Gourley led the Lynx group of setters with 17 assists.
