NEVADA — Ty Skartvedt powered the South Hamilton boys’ cross country team to a middle of the pack finish at Monday’s Nevada Invitational at Hickory Grove Park.

Skartvedt, who has been the Hawks’ team leader in every meet this season, crossed the finish line in 18:46.69 to place 17th. South Hamilton was sixth in the field of 12 teams with 198 points.

Third-ranked (Class 3A) North Polk dominated the meet. The Comets held down the first-, second- and third-place positions — Zach Sporaa was the winner in 16:41.06 — en route to 24 points. Gilbert was a distant second with 66.

South Hamilton’s Nos. 2-5 runners all maintained less than one minute of separation in the middle of the field. Gage Koster (38th) raced past the finish line in 19:47.01, while Eli Potter (44th) turned in a time of 20:02.53. Clay Willadsen (48th) wasn’t far back in 20:31.50, and Landan Grove (51st) completed the scoring team in 20:39.57.

The South Hamilton girls’ squad received another strong showing from Paige Doolittle, as the Hawks settled into eighth place with 206 points. No. 8-ranked (2A) Roland-Story captured the team title with 55 points. Gilbert (73) was second and No. 13-ranked (3A) North Polk (83) finished third.

Doolittle put up a 5K time of 23:25.45 to place 31st overall. Marissa Jensen (34th) continued to close the gap and crossed in 23:39.01. Anna Lammers (42nd, 24:02.85), Abby Ervin (50th, 24:54.28) and Chandler George (52nd, 24:57.80) also factored into the Hawks’ total.

Iowa Falls-Alden standout Ellie Meyer conquered the girls’ field in a winning time of 19:11.71. Meyer is unbeaten in the regular season up to this point.
