NEVADA — Nevada’s size advantage led to an increased number of turnovers and a poor shooting percentage for the South Hamilton girls’ basketball team on the final night of the regular season here on Tuesday.

Missing Caleigh Hewitt, the team’s lone post presence, the Hawks simply struggled to get good looks at the basket in a 51-31 loss to the Cubs. They also turned the ball over 27 times.

“I thought the girls played hard and did a better job of breaking Nevada’s press than last time,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson said. “We just really struggled with their size”

South Hamilton (6-13, 4-9 HOIC), which has dropped six consecutive games, connected on just 23 percent of its attempts (11 of 46). Nevada (10-12, 7-7 HOIC) shot 48 percent from the floor (22 of 45).

Aneesa Balderas drained two of South Hamilton’s four 3-point baskets and scored a team-high eight points. Hailey Diersen, Hallee Feaker and Zoey Duns all netted four points.

Diersen also collected nine rebounds, three steals and two assists. Balderas came up with three steals and dished out two assists as well.

Sydney Mosinski and Kacie Rewerts scored 14 points each for Nevada.

Ahead 22-13 at the half, Nevada put the game away with a 16-7 third-quarter run.

South Hamilton will look to get healthy and refocused before it begins the postseason next Tuesday against Grundy Center (14-7) in a Class 2A Region 4 quarterfinal. Tip-off from Grundy Center is set for 7 p.m.
