SPORTS BRIEFS

HAWKS HAVE 3 ACADEMIC ALL-STATE PLAYERS: South Hamilton seniors Nathan Wilson, Cade Flaugh and Cade Balvanz were all named to the Class 1A academic all-state football team by the Iowa Football Coaches Association, it was announced on Monday.

To be considered for the honor, players must be a senior starter, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 or better at the end of their junior year, be involved in other extra-curricular activities and be recommended by the head coach.

All three players were vital members of South Hamilton’s 6-3 season.

Flaugh was the 1A District 2 rushing champion with 1,165 yards and 16 touchdowns. Balvanz was a key contributor up front on both sides of the ball, as was Wilson before his season was cut short due to a knee injury.

BASKETBALL SCHEDULE CHANGE: Webster City’s North Central Conference basketball doubleheader at home against Humboldt has been moved to Thursday night at 6:15 p.m.

Originally scheduled for Friday, the games were moved up a night to avoid potential bad weather that has been forecasted.
