JEWELL — It took the South Hamilton girls’ basketball team eight minutes to shake off the cobwebs, but over the final 24 minutes the Hawks seized control for a comfortable Heart of Iowa Conference win on Coach Jim Marsh Court Tuesday night.

Playing for the first time in two weeks and trailing 10-9 after one quarter, South Hamilton went on a 14-6 second-quarter run and outscored Greene County 27-12 over the middle two periods en route to a 51-32 victory over the winless Rams.

“We definitely were a little rusty coming off a two-week stretch with no games,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson said. “I thought our effort was there all night, but our execution wasn’t where it should be.”

South Hamilton (5-6, 3-4 HOIC), which trucked Greene County (0-11, 0-7 HOIC) by 32 points in the first meeting in early December, received a monster performance from freshman point guard Hallee Feaker. She put up 11 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Inside players Breanne Diersen and Caleigh Hewitt combined for 17 points and 20 boards.

“Our post players did a real nice job of working together in our zone offense,” Henderson said. “Our outside girls are doing a better job of getting the ball to our posts and it’s opening things up for us.”

Ten Hawks reached the scoring column in the contest.

Izzy Bravard (14 points) and Bri Osterson (11 points) did the majority of the scoring for the Rams.

South Hamilton will be at home this evening to take on St. Edmond at 6 p.m.
