WEBSTER CITY — Balance continued to be the missing piece for the Webster City girls’ basketball team Tuesday night, as the Lynx dropped their third consecutive contest and fifth in their last six outings.

Senior leaders Taylor McKinney and Grace Hoversten provided the bulk of the offense, but it wasn’t enough in a 53-38 setback against North Central Conference rival Clarion-Goldfield-Dows inside the WCHS gymnasium.

McKinney buried five 3-pointers and scored 18 points, while Hoversten supplied 13 points on the inside. They accounted for 11 of the Lynx 15 field goals.

WCHS (3-6, 1-4 NCC) shot 35 percent from the floor and had only 10 turnovers.

CGD (5-2, 3-2 NCC) had its own dynamic duo in Raven Kinnetz and Quinn Hansch, who combined to can eight 3s and pour in 35 points. Kinnetz, the leading scorer in the NCC, led all players with 23 points, while Hansch finished with 12 points.

But the Cowgirls also received eight points from Courtney Harle, and four more from both Jadyn Jondle and Morgan Middleton.

McKinney rained in four first-half triples, as she and Hoversten accounted for 19 of the Lynx points. CGD took a 30-24 lead into the break.

WCHS trailed by nine points, 43-34, heading into the fourth quarter. CGD outscored the Lynx 10-4 over the final eight minutes.

Hoversten, the league leader on the glass, also yanked down eight rebounds and dished out two assists. Adalie Schwandt provided three points and six caroms in the paint.

WCHS will attempt to right the ship on Friday when it takes on winless Iowa Falls-Alden in Iowa Falls at 6:15 p.m.
