Feaker leads SH girls in loss

ROCKWELL CITY — The South Hamilton girls’ basketball team failed to capitalize on its free attempts at putting points on the scoreboard and, consequently, let the game get out of hand here Tuesday night.

But it’s not like South Central Calhoun did much better at the free throw line, although the Titans did roll to a 51-29 victory.

South Hamilton (0-2) made just 2 of 19 attempts at the charity stripe. The Titans (2-0) were only slightly better (4 of 15), but received a balanced scoring attack to gradually pull away.

“I thought we had some stretches in the game where we did some nice things, but we just had way too many empty possessions,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson said. “We had some real carless turnovers (31 in all), and combined with poor free throw shooting led to a slow night offensively.

“The girls are still getting used to playing together and overall I think most of our problems are correctable.”

Freshman Hallee Feaker led South Hamilton for the second consecutive game. The point guard finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Emma Lewis put up six points and two steals, while Hailey Diersen added four points and six boards.

Mackenzy Grady came off the Hawks’ bench to hit the team’s only 3-pointer in seven tries. She finished with seven points.

South Central Calhoun’s freshman duo of Riley Batta and Kylee Schleisman poured in 15 points each. Emma McKinney added 12 more.

The Titans led 15-8 after one quarter and 26-15 at the half. They pulled away with an 11-4 third-quarter flurry.
