Thursday’s Prep Briefs: Lynx Baseball, Hawks Softball

LYNX BASEBALL BLANKS H-D, FALLS TO BALLARD: Dylan Steen and Caleb Olson combined to shut out Hampton-Dumont Thursday night at Lynx Field, as the Webster City baseball team continued to roll through the North Central Conference with a 7-0 victory.

Steen struck out seven in four innings of work en route to the win on the bump. Olson took over in the fifth and fanned four more batters over the final three frames.

Devon Stoakes swung a big bat with three hits and three RBIs for the league-leading Lynx (11-6, 6-0 NCC). Olson added a single and plated two runs, while Steen ripped a double and later collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly. CJ Hisler added an RBI base hit.

WCHS also hosted Ballard last night and dropped a 3-0 decision.

The Bombers took an early 1-0 advantage and then added two insurance runs late to spoil what was a solid effort on the mound by Beau Klaver.

HAWKS TRIPPED UP BY SAYDEL: Saydel scored three early runs off starting pitcher Jessi Harms and made the lead hold up for a 3-2 win over South Hamilton in a Heart of Iowa Conference softball game last night in Des Moines.

The loss dropped the Hawks (14-7, 9-2 HOIC) back into a virtual tie for the league lead with North Polk.

South Hamilton scored both of its runs in the seventh inning and collected just four hits. Leah Jacoby went 2 for 3, while Taylor Volkmann ripped a double and drove in one run. Hailey Diersen added a single.

South Hamilton will host the Hawk Invite on Saturday.
