Thursday’s Prep Diamond Briefs

HAWK BASEBALL ROLLS: Sam Lewis roped three hits, two of which were doubles, and drove in three runs to spark a South Hamilton baseball rout, 13-1 in 5 innings, over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows last night in Clarion.

The Hawks belted 13 hits and scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings. Cole Berg, Zeke Balderas, Quinton Grove and Brandyn Feighner all lashed two hits. Grove had two RBIs.

Carter Hewitt earned the win on the mound. The lanky southpaw was touched for just three hits in four innings of work. He struck out seven.

“It was a good team win and Carter pitched very well,” South Hamilton head coach Kyle Galetich said.

South Hamilton will be at Greene County this evening.

LYNX HOLD OFF CARROLL: Eighth grader Ty McKinney took the mound with two outs in the seventh inning and struck out the final batter to grab the save in Webster City’s 3-2 victory over Carroll last night at Lynx Field.

Tyler Olson secured the win on the bump. He went 62⁄3 before handing the ball to McKinney. Olson also roped two hits and drove in one run for the Lynx (1-1). McKinney added a single, as did Beau Klaver and Caleb Olson.

SH SOFTBALL BEATS MADRID: South Hamilton overcame a lightning delay and Madrid, 5-3, last night in Jewell.

Lily Skartvedt went 2 for 3 at the dish for the Hawks (1-1). Taylor Volkmann, Cortney Harris, Jessi Harms and Leah Jacoby all smacked doubles. Harris and Jacoby had one RBI each, as did Breanne Diersen.

Harms picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle.
