One bad hole costs Ferrell under-par round at Lake Panorama National

Senior shoots 74 to finish second, Lynx third in team race

PANORA — Nathan Ferrell owned 17 of the holes at Lake Panorama National Golf Course Monday afternoon.

But there was one hole that turned the tables on the Webster City senior and it potentially cost him a tournament title.

A triple-bogey 7 on the par-4, 414-yard 11th hole put the brakes on an otherwise stellar round for Ferrell, who wound up carding a 2-over 74 and finishing second at the Panorama Invite.

Ferrell stepped to the 11th tee at 2-under, but a slice with his driver flew out of bounds and led to the crooked number. He followed it up with a bogey on the par-5, 585-yard 12th before righting the ship with six straight pars coming in.

“On any other hole it would have been fine, but on that hole there’s just no room on that side,” WCHS head coach Eric Dawson said. “But (Ferrell) was very happy with how he played.”

Panorama’s Kolby Shackelford claimed the individual title with an even-par 72.

Nevada fired a 315 to dominate the field of four teams. Panorama was second with a 349, followed closely by WCHS with a 354. West Central Valley was well back with a 415.

Drake Doering shot an 86 for the Lynx. Trey Lyons added a 95 and Devon Stoakes also stayed out of triple digits with a 99.
