PARKERSBURG — Three scores in the 80s helped put the South Hamilton boys’ golf team in contention to advance out of Friday’s Class 2A sectional tournament at Legend Trail Golf Club.

The Hawks posted a 358 and placed third, which was good enough to move on to this Friday’s district at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Dike. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was the sectional champion with a 334, followed by host Aplington-Parkersburg with a 357.

Three teams advanced because the host Falcons were among the top two finishers.

“It’s great to be advancing as a team,” South Hamilton head coach Steve Butler said. “I told the players that you can’t give up if you have a bad hole because every stroke counts when you’re playing to advance.”

Trevor Lammers led South Hamilton with an 84. Wyatt Heins (85) and Adam Titus (86) were close behind to give the Hawks a solid top three. Gavin Swenson’s 103 rounded out the scoring.

Hudson’s Jacob Wiersma was the medalist with an 80. CGD’s Dalton Nesheim also shot 80 and was the runner-up.
