Lynx teams win 11 events at Boone Classic
A small field of teams didn’t stop the Lynx from throwing up solid performances. The boys finished second behind Ames, while the girls placed third overall.
The Lynx boys seized a season-high eight first-place finishes, led by individual gold medals from Tucker Judkins in the 400-meter dash (54.25 seconds), Kaiyu Levongkhom in the 110 high hurdles (15.99), Max Harfst in the 800 (2:00.95), Lincoln LaSourd in the 200 (23.30) and John Piaszynski in the 1,600 (4:48.34).
WCHS also was first to the finish line in three relays — the 4×100 (44.68), 4×200 (1:35.15) and distance medley (3:45.67).
The 4×100 moved into the top 10 in Class 3A with its performance. The quartet of LaSourd, Garrett Whitmore, Carson Struchen and Trey Mathis will head to the Drake Relays to compete on Saturday.
The Lynx added five silver medals and five more bronze.
J.J. Moore (46 feet, 5 inches) and Austin Lampman (45-91⁄2) went 2-3 in the shot put, while Moore was third in the discus (127-6). Whitmore continued to lower his 400 low hurdles time to 55.27, which was second and only tenths of a second off the school record, and Malachi Montes had his best performance in the high jump by clearing 5-8 to finish second.
Jacob Willson in the 3,200 (10:58.78), Kasey Porter in the 110 high hurdles (17.1) and Mathis in the 200 (24.16) were all third.
For the WCHS girls’ team, Ashlyn Hay, Hannah Brandt and Zoey Woodle were all individual gold medalists. Hay was again the long jump leader with a best leap of 16-3, while Hannah Brandt joined her as a gold medalist in the field events. Brandt won the discus (101-5), one place in front of teammate Morgan Gallentine (96-2).
Woodle was the fastest sprinter in the 200 (27.74) and also placed third in the long jump (15-41⁄2).
Jacie Crutcher was a two-time runner-up in the 1,500 (5:59.12) and 3,000 (12:59.64).
