WEBSTER CITY — South Hamilton and Webster City will both send four athletes to the Drake Relays in Des Moines later this week.

The Hawks will send their boys’ 4×800-meter relay to the blue oval for Friday’s race, while the Lynx will take their boys’ 4×100 quartet on Saturday.

Logan Peters, Quinton Grove, Cole Berg and Conner Hill will represent South Hamilton when the gun goes off at 5:48 p.m. Friday evening. It’s an illustrious 16-team field of the state’s best that includes 14 Class 4A programs. Dubuque Wahlert is the lone 3A in the field, while South Hamilton (2A) is the smallest school by a large margin.

The Hawks own the 12th-best time of 8:10.57 in the field, which they set in Iowa City on April 6. Pleasant Valley ran a qualifying time of 8:04.14 to lead the way.

Garrett Whitmore, Trey Mathis, Carson Struchen and Lincoln LaSourd will run for WCHS in the 4×100 prelims at 10:03 a.m. on Saturday. The final is scheduled for 3:37 p.m.

A total of 96 4×100 teams qualified. The Lynx sit 87th with a time of 45.29 seconds and will run out of Lane 2 in the 11th of 12 prelim heats.

Waukee’s 42.63 qualifying time leads the field.
