WEBSTER CITY — Don’t look now, but Webster City is playing some really good volleyball.

With a nine-day rest following last Tuesday’s five-set road thriller over Clear Lake, the Lynx returned to the floor last night and dismantled North Central Conference rival Hampton-Dumont in three sets for their third consecutive victory.

“You always get nervous when you have those big breaks between (matches), but the girls did a good job of staying focused,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said after her club dispatched the Bulldogs 25-20, 25-22, 25-18. “The girls came out with intensity in that first game.”

It helped that Adalie Schwandt was a dominant force in the front row.

The WCHS junior attacker swatted 15 kills and hit .481 with just two miscues in 27 swings. She did the job defensively as well with a match-high six blocks.

“She did a good job at the net for us,” Howard said of Schwandt. “She made sure she got her body where it needed to be defensively to get her hands on hits, and she was swinging hard offensively.”

Kamry Dawson bashed seven kills and Grace Hoversten added four more in the win. Hoversten also frustrated Hampton-Dumont (3-11, 0-3 NCC) with five blocks.

WCHS (8-7, 2-1 NCC) led throughout and received consistent play all over the floor.

Libero Alayna Finucan collected 15 digs and Atlanta Hopp, a defensive specialist, contributed 12 more. Zoey Woodle returned from a two-week absence because of an ankle injury and came up with five digs.

Cynthia Whitehill distributed 18 assists. Morgan Gallentine handed out 11 more.

WCHS tallied six service aces, led by Finucan with two.

The Lynx will head to the Forest City Invite on Saturday and will open up play against Spencer at 10 a.m.
