Bultena named to academic all-state soccer squad
WEBSTER CITY — Tyler Bultena, a recent graduate of Webster City High School and a four-year starter for the Lynx boys’ soccer team, steps away from the pitch with one of the highest honors a player can receive.
Bultena was named to the academic all-state squad by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association on Thursday.
A Governor’s Scholar with a 4.0 grade point average, Bultena was the bedrock of the Lynx back line on the pitch this past spring, as he helped WCHS put together a 10-8 record. The Lynx allowed just 23 goals.
WCHS went 48-28 over Bultena’s four years in the starting lineup.
Lynx head coach Craig Signorin was not surprised that Bultena was named to the academic all-state squad.
“It’s something to be very proud of and that’s just Tyler,” Signorin said. “He sets his own bar and it’s at a high level. I haven’t seen a goal he hasn’t met.”
Bultena will attend Iowa State University in the fall.
