Vogelbacher becomes Lynx all-time goals record holder with hat trick against CAL

WEBSTER CITY — Sarah Vogelbacher is now in a club all by herself, the soccer player that future Webster City girls will strive to mimic.

She’s not big, she’s not overly physical and she’s not a burner. So what is Vogelbacher? Just the best goal scorer in the history of the Lynx program.

With a nose for the ball and field intelligence that few can match, the WCHS senior cemented her standing inside the program last Thursday when she passed Kelsey Brown to move to the top of the Lynx all-time goals leaderboard. Entering a match against CAL in Latimer with 44 goals, the same total Brown concluded her career with years ago, Vogelbacher put three goals on the scoreboard in a 10-0 Lynx rout.

Vogelbacher added the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Saturday. She enters today’s home match against Humboldt with 48 career goals.

A four-year starter on the pitch for the Lynx, Vogelbacher’s career has been about consistency. She scored 10 times as a freshman in 2015, tacked on 19 goals during her sophomore campaign and added 14 more a season ago. She has five so far this season.

WCHS is 2-4 on the season entering today’s 5 p.m. match against the Wildcats at Lynx Field.
