Fuhs twins go 1-2, lead Bears to tourney title

OKOBOJI — Alec and Avery Fuhs sat at the top of the leaderboard at Tuesday’s Iowa Lakes Fall Invitational, as the 2016 Webster City High School graduates and Des Moines Area Community College sophomores led the Bears men’s golf team to the title in the fall opener.

Alec Fuhs claimed the individual crown with an even-par 72. Avery Fuhs was two shots back with a 74, which put him into a share of second place with teammate Dalton Huseman.

DMACC fired a 296 to win the crown by 22 shots over runner-up Iowa Lakes Community College.

Robert Flattery, who was a prep at St. Edmond, added a 75 for the Bears. He was fourth on the individual leaderboard.

DMACC is coming off a spring season in which it qualified for the national tournament for the first time since the 1970s. All five players that competed for the Bears, including the Fuhs twins, return this season.

“We’re setting high expectations for ourselves,” DMACC head coach Chris Seaboch said. “Last year our goal was to make it to the national tournament. This year our goal is to have a top-five finish in the national tournament.”
