Grundy Center blanks Lynx boys on tennis courts
WEBSTER CITY — Grundy Center came to town and Grundy Center conquered on Monday.
Winners of three straight duals by a combined score of 25-2, the Spartans (3-1) didn’t drop a single set in rolling past Webster City, 9-0, at the WCHS courts. It was a difficult return to reality for the Lynx (1-6), who stepped between the lines with a bit of confidence after picking up their first victory of the season over Hampton-Dumont on Friday.
WCHS (1-6) played without No. 2 singles player Steffen Chambers, who also serves as a part of the team’s top doubles team. But it would have been difficult to slow down Grundy Center even with him in the lineup.
In games, the Spartans won 72 of 96 in singles and 24 of 29 in doubles.
