Late add to the Jim Klein Invite field allows WCHS to get in a time trial

JEWELL – The Webster City cross country teams were forced to call an audible yesterday afternoon, but, in the end, everything worked out.

The Lynx were supposed to compete in the Class 4A-packed Fort Dodge Invite at Lakeside Golf Course, but meet officials opted to cancel the meet mid-afternoon because of the potential threat of serious weather.

But rather than accept missing a second meet because of Mother Nature, WCHS quickly asked and received permission to take part in the Jim Klein Invitational as a non-scoring team at the Jewell Golf and Country Club

“We were just looking for a place to race,” WCHS head coach Joe Lambert said. “I talked to (South Hamilton Athletic Director Todd Coy) and he was very gracious and opened the door for us so that we could at least get in a good, solid workout.”

Times for the WCHS runners taken by the Lynx coaching staff were unavailable as of press time.

John Piaszynski didn’t push the pace early like teammates Dawson Hjelmeland and Tyler Bultena, but that paid off in the end as he passed both to secure the team lead.

Larae Ebrecht paced the WCHS girls’ team throughout the race and opened up a wide gap over her teammates.
