No. 15 Lynx boys 4th, girls 12th at Kuemper Invite

CARROLL – Another consistent effort amongst its lead pack allowed the Webster City boys’ cross country team to finish in the top four at Saturday’s Kuemper Catholic Invite at Swan Lake State Park.

The 15th-ranked (Class 3A) Lynx had less than a minute of separation between their scoring five en route to 112 points and a fourth-place showing, just a point behind third-place finisher Bondurant-Farrar (111). No. 13-ranked (4A) Urbandale went home with the title with 55 points and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (96) was the runner-up.

Tyler Bultena (18:20) and Dawson Hjelmeland (18:27) led WCHS with 13th- and 15th-place performances, respectively. John Piaszynski (18:46) wasn’t too far off the pace in 23rd and Evan Mark (18:59) continued to climb the team’s depth chart with a 26th-place effort. Trey Nelson (19:14) rounded out the scorers in 35th.

The WCHS girls’ squad tallied 334 points and finished in 12th place. Urbandale (69) nipped Spencer (70) for the team crown, followed by 10th-ranked (3A) Denison-Schleswig (75) and 15th-ranked (3A) North Polk (90).

Larae Ebrecht (23:52) was the Lynx top runner, as she placed 52nd. Emma Piper (24:49, 63rd), Haley Flaws (26:28, 70th), Kaitlyn Wagner (26:44, 73rd) and Mariana Garcia (28:05, 76th) also factored into the scoring.
