Cadets narrowly beat WCHS girls again, 5-4

WEBSTER CITY – The Webster City girls’ tennis team saw its dual-meet record dip to 4-4 yesterday at the WCHS courts after a second 5-4 loss to Iowa Falls-Alden this week.

Just like in Tuesday’s dual in Iowa Falls, the two teams split the six singles matches and then the Cadets took control by winning two of the three doubles bouts.

“It was another close one, but we weren’t all there 100 percent,” WCHS head coach Erica Munkel said. “We just had an off night.”

Courtney Lampman, Rihanna Wood and Jayden Mathis all collected singles wins. Lampman took down the Cadets No. 1 player Emilee McDaniels, 10-2, and Wood won a thrilling 11-10 match over Alivia Gerstein 9-7 in the tiebreaker. Mathis also won a nail-biter, 10-8, over Alesha Terveer.

Sierra Anderson and Erin Larson teamed up to secure the Lynx only doubles win. They disposed of Terveer and Ally Sheridan, 10-6.

WCHS will be back at home today to face North Polk in a dual meet. Start time is 4:30 p.m.
