Pinna’s hat trick powers No. 14 Lynx to rout

WEBSTER CITY – Scoring early hasn’t always been easy for the 14th-ranked (Class 2A) Webster City boys’ soccer team.

The Lynx were able to shuck those problems aside, for one night anyway.

With just one goal to his name in six previous outings, Antonio Pinna locked up a hat trick before the match was 13th minutes old and WCHS powered by CAL/Hampton-Dumont, 6-0, at Lynx Field Monday night.

“I would say we played pretty well,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “Finishing chances early is something that we don’t always do well, so to finish quality chances, that’s what we’re looking for.”

WCHS (6-1) led 4-0 at the half on its way to a fourth consecutive victory. The Lynx have now outscored their foes 19-4 and CAL/H-D (0-4) became their fourth shutout victim of the season.

Pinna punched in goals in the sixth, eighth and 13th minutes, much to the enjoyment of the majority of fans in attendance. Alex Bobadilla recorded the assists on the initial two goals and Landon Daniels fed Pinna for the third.

“Alex and Landon did a good job of finding (Pinna),” Signorin said. “He’s a good target up top.”

Following his third goal, Pinna transitioned into the role of facilitator just 30 seconds later when he set Bobadilla up for his first goal of the spring.

Bobadilla added his second goal seven minutes into the second half, courtesy of an assist by Daniels.

WCHS remained in front 5-0 until the 54th minute when Francesco Bretado joined the scoring party off a Jerry Torres assist.

The Lynx fired off 20 shots to the Cadets’ three and possessed an 11-3 cushion on frame.

WCHS goalkeeper Ashton High didn’t have much to stress about. He was forced to come up with one save to preserve the shutout.

Up next for WCHS is a trip to Clear Lake on Thursday to face the Lions at 5:30 p.m.
