Eight players notch goals, WCHS girls roll to easy win

LATIMER – The goals came in bunches on Monday and by the time it was over the Webster City girls’ soccer team had doubled its season scoring total in less than 75 minutes of play.

On the pitch looking to end a two-match skid, the Lynx piled up eight goals in the first half and went on to trounce CAL/Hampton-Dumont, 10-0.

WCHS (2-3) entered the contest with just five goals in four previous matches this season. It marked the program’s most lopsided success since it handed the same Cadets a 10-0 beating last April in Webster City.

CAL/H-D (0-3) has been outscored 26-0 in three outings this spring.

“The girls played well and they definitely passed it around and shared the excitement,” WCHS head coach Paul Baedke said. “I think that is the most awesome part; it’s not a one-person team doing the scoring this year. We have to perform as a team and that showed (Monday night) by spreading the goals around.”

Eight different players rifled the ball into the net, including Maia Jaycox, who got out from the Lynx goal and got the chance to put the match away with a score with just over five minutes remaining.

Sarah Vogelbacher and Gianna Gourley notched two goals each. Kennedy Daniels fed the ball in scoring position to Vogelbacher in the 17th and 39th minutes. It was Daniels who ignited the onslaught with a goal of her own off a Carly O’Hearn assist in the seventh minute.

Gourley packed on unassisted goals in the ninth and 42nd minutes.

Jenna Arbaugh, Shalis Mofle, Hannah Williams and Thatianna Vangkham added goals as well. Vogelbacher picked up an assist.

WCHS outshot the Cadets 23-3 and owned a 6-0 edge on corner kicks.

Mofle collected two saves. Jaycox had one.
