Hawks’ Peters wins more gold, now 41-1 on season

POCAHONTAS – South Hamilton sent four wrestlers to the finals and brought home one gold medal and five top-three finishes from Saturday’s Lynn Moody Invite, which was hosted by Pocahontas Area.

The solid performance slotted the Hawks into sixth place in the team standings with 123 points. Pocahontas Area secured the crown with 211 points, a comfortable 38-point advantage over runner-up Waukee (173). Alta-Aurelia (148) was third.

As expected, top seed and fifth-ranked (Class 1A) Luke Peters, a South Hamilton junior, mowed down the rest of the 160-pound field and improved to 41-1 on the season. Peters pinned all three of his opponents, including Zach Plagman of Waukee in 1:41 in the championship round.

Keaton Hetland (120), Noah Lutter (170) and Zach Lutter (285) all came up one win short in their bids for gold.

Hetland, back in the lineup for the first time since prior to the holiday break, picked up a semifinal-round fall before losing to Pocahontas Area’s Joe Minkler, 5-2, in the finals.

Noah Lutter collected a fall and a 5-3 win in sudden-victory over Pocahontas Area’s Philip Minkler. He fell to West Bend-Mallard’s Dalton Knobloch by fall in the finals.

Zach Lutter decked Alta-Aurelia’s Ben Kearney in just 24 seconds in the semifinals, but couldn’t get by Pocahontas Area’s Spencer Trenary in the last round.

Brian Carroll (145) added a third-place finish for South Hamilton after a 3-1 day. Charlie Reiter (132) and Rylan Harris (220) both went 2-2 and placed fourth.
