TRIPLE THREAT

WEBSTER CITY – Nobody has been more frustrated with Landon Daniels’ 3-point shooting than Landon Daniels himself. But with a couple flicks of the wrist, the form and his smile returned last night.

Content to defend and pass for much of the season, Webster City’s senior guard went on the offensive against Hampton-Dumont and buried four 3-pointers to help the Lynx sail by the Bulldogs, 63-47, in North Central Conference play.

Daniels canned one triple in the opening half, two in a third quarter that saw WCHS (12-1, 9-0 NCC) outscore Hampton-Dumont (5-9, 3-7 NCC) 25-10, and another in the final period before he took a seat for good with close to 5 minutes remaining.

“Finally,” Daniels said. “It’s been a long season without that (3-point shot). It just feels a lot better than it did at the start of the season.”

A little prodding from a teammate helped as well.

“Right before the (holiday) break, Avery (Fuhs) told me that I have to find my shot for the second half of the season,” Daniels said. “I did a lot of shooting and a lot of drills over the break.”

Daniels wasn’t the only WCHS player to get hot from the perimeter. Alec Fuhs drained four 3’s in the first half to help stake the Lynx to a 29-20 advantage, and WCHS finished 9 of 17 overall from outside the arc.

“It was just good offense,” WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said after his club shot a blistering 24 of 41 (59 percent). “They were good shots and a lot of them were created with good spacing.

“It was great to see Landon going and he was confident. We need him to score and do the things he did (last night). If he gets his offense going, it makes it so much tougher to defend us.”

Alec Fuhs led WCHS with 14 points and Avery Fuhs poured in 13. The twins also combined to distribute 11 of the team’s 18 assists.

Colt Richardson did his job inside with 12 points and six rebounds. Daniels also contributed four boards and four assists.

WCHS opened the third quarter on an 11-2 spurt to pull out to an 18-point cushion, 40-22. Daniels then hit back-to-back 3’s in less than a minute to expand the margin to 22 points.

Daniels’ final trey of the night – a wide-open bomb from the corner that was the result of WCHS making the extra pass – gave the Lynx a 61-33 lead.

Up by 28, McKinney emptied his bench over the final half of the fourth period.

Dayton Gooder (16 points) and Coleton Barz (nine points) led Hampton-Dumont.
