Wildcats hammer ball, Trojans in just 3 innings

BLAIRSBURG – Mistakes turned into more mistakes and the frustration mounted with every pitch for the Northeast Hamilton baseball team yesterday evening.

Not even a stern lecture from head coach Chace Pruismann in the second inning did much good, as Janesville smacked 10 hits and took advantage of six physical errors and just as many mental miscues in a 15-0 Iowa Star Conference victory in three innings.

The Wildcats (2-4, 2-3 ISC) got scored four runs, all with two outs, in the opening frame. They started to take the extra base against the tentative Trojans (1-4, 1-4 ISC) and plated five more in the second, and finished it off with a six-spot in the third.

“It really comes down to you’ve got to finish your job,” Pruismann said afterwards. “If you do your job and something happens, that’s on someone else. So we definitely have to prepare a little bit harder for sure.”

NEH starting pitcher Nate Rapp lasted just one inning and allowed eight hits. Relievers Austin Smith and Garrett Grady didn’t fare much better; the three combined to walk six batters and hit three more.

Wildcats’ clean-up stick Austin Goreham went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Noah Dodd and Chase Thompson also rattled off a pair of hits. Thompson, Caleb Rieken and Josiah Hovenga all picked up two RBI.

“It gives you a shovel instead of using your hands when they start hammering it that well,” Pruismann said of the Wildcat bats. “They hit the ball really hard.”

NEH managed just three hits off Wildcats’ right-hander Dawson Charley – a double by Kyler Rapp and singles by Andy Pate and Hunter Dilley.

Pate and Kyler Rapp opened the bottom of the first with back-to-back hits and were both in scoring position with no outs. But they were still at second and third when the frame ended.

Trojans tripped up by GMG

GARWIN – NEH was limited to just two hits in a 14-8 loss to ISC rival Green Mountain Garwin here Wednesday night.

Neither team had command of their pitches and they combined to walk 21 batters.

Pate went 1-for-2 at the dish and collected two RBI, while Dilley added a base hit in the loss.
