WCHS boys rally by IF-A in dual meet
WEBSTER CITY – Behind a pair of doubles victories, the Webster City boys’ tennis team claimed its second consecutive dual-meet win yesterday afternoon at the WCHS courts.
Trailing 4-3 after the opening doubles match, the Lynx rallied to take the Nos. 2 and 3 bouts to rally past Iowa Falls-Alden, 5-4.
“It went down to the wire, but it’s not over until it’s over,” WCHS head coach Bruce Johnston said. “It was a pretty good overall team effort. The guys did a good job.”
Blake Nelson and Ben Grimshaw brought WCHS to 4-4 with a 10-6 win over the Cadets’ Caleb Smith and Joseph Tibbs. Kolton Gemmel and Bryan Johnston brought the team win home with a 10-4 rout of Dillon Miller and Kade Campbell.
Nelson, Grimshaw and Gemmel all won their singles matches as well. Nelson downed Thomas Burchfieldt, 10-5. Grimshaw picked off Miller, 10-7, and Gemmel throttled Campbell, 10-1.
WCHS (2-3) will look for a third consecutive victory today when it hosts Hampton-Dumont at 4:30 p.m.
