BRIEFS

TROJANS SEVENTH AT SE VALLEY MEET: Three medals and six top-six finishes highlighted the evening for the Northeast Hamilton boys’ track team at Monday’s Southeast Valley Coed Relays in Burnside.

The Trojans accrued 29 points to finish seventh. Southeast Valley (155) flew away from the field of eight; Ogden (98) was the runner-up.

Nick Jeffers accounted for two of the medals, as he placed second in the discus (126 feet, 4 inches) and third in the 400-meter dash (56.32 seconds).

Kyle Pruismann added a third-place result in the long jump (18-4). He again broke one minute in the 400 hurdles (59.39) and finished fourth.

NEH had two relays place in the top six; the shuttle hurdle (1:24.22) was fourth, while the 4×800 (11:12.06) took sixth. Evan Mark was a member of both quartets.

NEH was back on the track last night at the Lynx Invitational in Webster City. A complete report will appear in Thursday’s Daily Freeman-Journal.

HAWKS FIRE ANOTHER 358: Give the South Hamilton boys’ golf team one thing – it’s been consistent.

The Hawks’ 358 team total on Monday at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center was identical to the number it posted last Thursday at Jester Park Golf Course outside of Granger. They fired a 359 earlier last week in a tournament at Terrace Hills Golf Course in Altoona.

“We’ve been consistent around that number, but we’ve got to do better than that and (the players) know that,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Ullestad said. “(Lincoln Valley) is an easier course than what we’ve already played, but it was probably the worst wind conditions.”

Monday’s score put the Hawks in ninth in the 14-team field at the West Marshall Invitational. Nevada (316) won the team title.

Nathan Sogard led the Hawks with an 84. Colton Coy was next with a 91, while Landon Quam and Jared Ullestad shot matching 92s to close out the scoring.
