Lions too much for Webster City
CLEAR LAKE — Webster City had no answer for third-ranked Clear Lake on Friday night.
The Lions (3-0 overall) built a 40 point lead through three quarters and never looked back, cruising to a 47-7 victory over the Lynx (1-2).
Clear Lake only allowed the Lynx 156 yards of total offense, while combining for 413 yards of their own.
“Clear Lake is a very good football team with a lot of athletes,” said Webster City head coach Andy Brim. “They were able to find some mismatches and take advantage of those. “It’s no fault to our kids as I think Clear Lake will be a very tough team to match up with throughout the season.”
Jaxon Griffith led the Webster City ground attack with 62 yards and the lone score on a one-yard plunge.
Aiden Hrnicek had 42 yards and Kaleb Hansen had 36.
Eli Estlund led the Lynx’ defense with six tackles. Gavin Wynkoop and Carter Mickelson had five each.
Clear Lake quarterback Jaxson McIntire led the Lions with four combined touchdowns, throwing for two and running for two.
McIntire was 13-for-16 passing for 183 yards. Payne Nelson was 1-for-1 with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Keeton Jeppeson. McIntire connected with Kolby Hodnefield from 35 and Trevor Theobald from seven.
On the ground McIntire ran for 48 yards and two scores. His long touchdown run was from 34 yards.
Hodnefield had 83 yards on four totes and a touchdown run of 57 yards. Sam Dodge had a 35-yard touchdown jaunt.
“I have to do a better job as a coach to simplify our schemes so we are able to execute at a high level,” Brim said. “We will spend the week getting back to fundamentals so we are able to put our kids in the best possible position to be successful.”
Webster City is back in action on Friday when they host Gilbert for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
