Lynx lose to No. 1 Cedar Rapids Xavier

After scoring a 10-0 win in their postseason opener, the Webster City softball team could not pull the ultimate upset, falling to No. 1 (Class 4A) Cedar Rapids Xavier last Saturday, 10-0.

The Saints (36-5 overall) raced out to an early lead with four runs in the first. They will now face Bondurant-Farrar Tuesday night for a spot in the upcoming state tournament in Fort Dodge from Rogers Park.

In the win over Waterloo East, the Lynx (7-18) scored a run in the first before plating five in the second and four in the third. Jakaela Cherry had three hits with a home run and a double, driving in three.

Cherry, a junior, also earne the win inside the circle with eight strikeouts.

Cloe Savitski, Lydia VanDeer, Jaylyn Bahrenfuss and Alivia Burns all drove in a run as Savitski and Hailey Brim both recorded two hits. Savitski also had a triple while Brim stole two bases.

Briley VanDeer scored twice, as did Lydia VanDeer and Bahrenfuss.

The Lynx lose Savitski, Lydia VanDeer and Breanna Bahrenfuss to graduation.
