Webster City girls finish season at regional golf tourney
CARROLL — It takes either an extraordinary golfer or an extraordinary round of golf at the right time to clinch a berth to the Class 3A Girls’ State Golf Tournament May 25-26 in Cedar Falls.
For the Webster City girls’ golf team, it was just a little bit out of reach, as the Lynx were surrounded by strong competition.
At the Class 3A-Region 2 Girls’ Golf Tournament, held on Wednesday at the Carroll Country Club, the Lynx’s season came to a close with a team score of 467.
The Lynx were led by junior Ava Peterson, who carded 110 strokes and finished 37th overall. Placing 39th was teammate Claire Bailey, who recorded a 111.
Junior Kennedy Halling turned in a scorecard of 122, and senior Carly Appel capped her high school career with a 124.
Gilbert (321) and Nevada (350) advanced to state, where they will face Central DeWitt, Clear Lake, Lisbon, MOC Floyd-Valley, Dubuque Walhert, Washington, West Delaware and Cedar Rapids Xavier.
