Learn to be grateful and lift your hearts and spirit

Attend the Ecumenical Thanksgiving service on gratitude Sunday

By KOLLEEN TAYLOR 3 min read

This week, we began publishing a short thought for the day from the Webster City Ministerial Association. Coordinated by Barb Wollan, the ministers are creating a list of things to be grateful for throughout the month of November.

It's a great idea, and something maybe each of us should do each day.

I've seen others who have done it through different social media avenues. But it's a quick glimpse, and then gone. But regardless of the format, everyone should have something to be grateful for.

It can be simple, like never having to go to bed hungry, or for today only, I have enough food.

It can widespread, like I'm grateful that I live in Iowa, in the United States, in North America

It can be personal: I'm grateful that I am healthy, that I'm still alive, that there are good doctors

It can be sharing: I'm grateful that I can drive, that I can make food to share, that I can assist others.

It can be about the people in your life, your family and friends, it can be about nature, the beauty of fall, and the sunsets we enjoy here in

I'm thankful that the elections are over, and we can pay attention to other things that we can impact.

I think it is great timing and I am pleased to post these little tidbits each day.

Each of us needs to be reminded of the great blessings we receive. For each of us the blessings will be different. It's all about perspective.

Over the past few months we've heard a lot of negative things, with the ugly campaigning.

We've heard lies, and name calling, we've been given facts that were twisted or taken out of context. We can pray that now that the election is over, we can focus on the positive.

Maybe we can look at today as a new beginning.

There are so many things we need to enjoy in our lives, so for the month of November, and the rest of the year, it would not be a bad thing to change habits.

Stop responding or creating negative posts on social media.

Stop the name calling, and treat everyone as equals

Make sure you have the true facts before you repeat them.

Stop hurting each other.

Pick up the phone at least one day each week and tell someone that you care about them. Let your family and friends know that they are appreciated. Make an effort to visit someone who rarely has company.

Offer the gift of friendship to someone who needs a friend.

Our world is full of positive things. Let us all be thankful for who we are, where we live, what we can share, and be grateful.

It doesn't take a lot of money or time.

It only takes you.

Starting at /week.
