Share the Loads Laundry Ministry Launches in Webster City
A new community ministry is coming to Webster City with a simple message: everyone feels better in, and deserves clean clothes.
The Webster City Ministerial Association is launching Share the Loads, a community-wide laundry ministry designed to provide free access to laundry services for anyone who needs it. The program is built on the belief that clean clothes are more than a basic necessity--they can help people feel better about themselves, face the day with greater confidence, and experience the support of a caring community.
The program grew from a desire among area churches to work together to meet a practical need in the community. Through Share the Loads, these churches, under the banner of the Webster City Ministerial Association, hopes to create an atmosphere where people can receive help without judgment, paperwork or barriers.
Rooted in Jesus’ call to care for our neighbors "I needed clothes and you clothed me." -- Matthew 25:36, this simple statement from Jesus’ teaching in Matthew serves as an inspiration for Share the Loads and its mission to meet a practical need while showing compassion, dignity and love to others.
"Everyone feels better with clean clothes" is more than a slogan. For someone struggling to make ends meet, the cost of laundry can become another difficult expense. For others, access to a washer and dryer may be limited or unavailable. Share the Loads provides an opportunity to remove that burden while reminding participants that their community cares about them.
Clean laundry can also have an impact that goes well beyond having fresh clothes to wear. Having clean clothing can help a person feel prepared for a job interview, a day at work, school, a medical appointment or simply the everyday activities of life. It can provide a sense of normalcy and dignity during a difficult season.
The organizers also want Share the Loads to be a place where people feel welcome. There is no requirement to explain why someone needs assistance and no income qualification to meet. The program is intentionally designed for the entire community because everyone can experience times when an unexpected expense, a change in circumstances or a lack of resources makes something as ordinary as doing laundry more difficult.
The ministry is also an opportunity for the entire community to get involved. Financial donations and scent-free laundry detergent pods are needed to help keep Share the Loads operating each month. Individuals, churches, businesses and organizations can all play a role in helping provide this simple but meaningful service.
Donations of scent-free laundry pods are especially helpful to provide detergent while being mindful that participants may have sensitivities or preferences regarding scented products. Financial contributions will also help cover the ongoing costs associated with providing laundry services each month.
Volunteers will be an important part of the ministry as well. Share the Loads is not simply about washing clothes--it is about people helping people. Volunteers can help create a welcoming environment, assist with the practical aspects of the ministry and offer a friendly face to those who participate.
The Webster City Ministerial Association hopes Share the Loads will become an example of what can happen when a community works together. By sharing resources, time and compassion, local churches and community members can help neighbors with a basic need while building stronger connections throughout Webster City.
The ministry also reflects the broader mission of the Webster City Ministerial Association: bringing churches together to serve the community. Rather than individual congregations working separately, Share the Loads creates an opportunity for churches to join together around a common purpose and invite the entire community to participate.
There is something meaningful about taking a simple everyday task and turning it into an opportunity for connection. While a load of laundry may not seem like a significant act of ministry, the impact can be much greater than the task itself. It can mean one less expense for a family, one less worry for an individual and one more reminder that neighbors are willing to help one another.
Whether someone needs help with laundry or simply wants to help someone else, Share the Loads invites the entire community to participate.
Share the Loads will be available the first Tuesday of each month from 4 to 7 p.m., beginning on October 2, 2026. There are no income restrictions, and everyone in the community is welcome to participate.
