New year, new activities, new books

Off the shelf

Kendall Young Library has an exciting start to the year with our Friends of the Library Festival of Chocolate event quickly approaching on Sunday, Jan. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. It’s a chance to share treats and memories with fellow chocoholics, show support for this annual library fundraising event, and win prizes. There will be chocolate for everyone, with four categories of chocolate represented: Bars, cakes, candy, and cookies.

The Festival of Chocolate is sponsored by the Friends of the Kendall Young Library to help fund programs and activities not covered in the Library’s normal operating budget. The revenue supports Kendal Young Library Summer Reading Programs, the annual Family Game Night, and other Library services and projects. We hope you will join us for some chocolatey fun. Festival entries are welcome until Monday, Jan. 22 and the entry forms are available on our website or at the library. Tickets are available to purchase for the festival for $10.00 at the Library Checkout Desk.

The entire month of February is our Winter Reading Program for all ages. We have a program for children, teens, and adults and anyone can join. The theme this year is: There’s SNOW Better Time to Read. You can come into the library throughout the month and do the activities that we have planned and you will have the opportunity to win prizes. Some examples of these activities are: Review a book and get your name put into a prize drawing, the teens will be doing Book Bingo to win a grand prize, and more. I know we have some fun activities planned and some great prizes.

On Friday, Feb. 16 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Kendall Young Library will be hosting the tenth annual Family Game Night. This is a great program that brings the whole family together to spend quality time with each other and have fun playing games. Get moving with your family and have a blast. Families will be able to choose from a variety of board games and card games, or try out life-size versions of Candyland, Connect 4, and Giant Jenga. You can also bring your favorite board game along and share the fun with others. Children 5th grade and under must be accompanied by an adult or older family member. Taco bags & cookies will be served. Plan to have lots of fun at the library.

I hope you decide to come to one (or more) of our awesome 2018 events, I know that I am very excited to experience the Festival of Chocolate, Winter Reading Program, and Family Game Night for the first time.

We are always getting new books and movies here at Kendall Young Library. Look on our catalog on our website to see new books just added to our collection. We always love suggestions if you have any books you would like us to add to the collection in 2018. All you need to do is come into the library and fill out a Request to Purchase slip and we just might get it for you. You can also sign up for our newsletters to see newly added books.

Thank you everyone for your support and we hope to see you at the library this year.
