A vote for Scot Ely is a vote for safety, accountability and common sense
To the editor:
I’m writing today because our schools, and our community, need strong, practical leadership, and that’s exactly what Scot Ely will bring to the (Webster City) School Board. I’ve known Scot for many years, both personally and professionally. I’ve seen firsthand how he approaches every challenge with level-headed logic, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to others. When I’m faced with a tough decision in my own business, he’s often the person I call for practical, common-sense advice.
Scot’s background in law enforcement gives him a unique and essential perspective. He knows how to keep people safe and how to prepare for the unexpected. Being that Scot is a father himself, with children attending school in our WC School District, he has a personal vested interest in keeping our schools safe. In a time when school safety is on everyone’s mind, Scot won’t just talk about protecting our students, he will take smart, proactive steps to make sure our schools are truly secure. Our district would greatly benefit from someone who understands real-life safety planning and knows how to balance that with compassion and communication.
But Scot’s strengths go far beyond safety. He is a responsible property owner and business manager who understands how to manage money wisely. He doesn’t spend money that’s not there. He plans ahead, identifies potential financial concerns early, and isn’t afraid to bring them to the table for honest discussion. He will protect taxpayers from unnecessary spending while ensuring every dollar is used efficiently and transparently, all with the goal of strengthening our schools and enhancing the education our students already receive.
Scot is also a strong believer in transparency between the school district and parents. Parents deserve to know how decisions are made, especially when it comes to safety, spending, and priorities that affect their children’s education. Scot will insist on open communication so that parents, teachers, and taxpayers are informed and involved every step of the way.
The reason I’m drawn to Scot as a friend and confidant is his exceptional ability to think outside the box. He’s not afraid to ask the tough or uncomfortable questions that others might avoid. He does it because he cares deeply about finding real solutions, not just easy ones. Scot knows that keeping talented teachers in our district and improving student success will require creativity and collaboration, not cookie-cutter ideas.
At a time when it’s easier to sit back and stay silent, Scot steps forward. He listens. He questions. He finds solutions. That’s exactly the kind of leadership our schools need right now.
Our children, teachers and community deserve a school board member who will work tirelessly, lead with common sense and never lose sight of the bigger picture … a safe, thriving and financially stable school system that puts students first.
That’s why I strongly encourage every voter to cast their ballot for Scot Ely for school board. He has the experience, the courage, and the commitment to do what’s right for Webster City.
