Urges bipartisian effort for fix ACA

To the Editor:

Thanks for the article, “Voicing Opinions”, that appeared in the Freeman-Journal on August 28. It covered the health care town hall meeting which was held on August 26, 2017.

I was the speaker who urged a bi-partisan effort to improve the Affordable Care Act. Please allow me to clarify my statement. My actual statement was that when the ACA was being developed the majority Democrats invited Republicans to offer ideas and some of those ideas were included in the bill. I suggested that compromises made to attract Republican support may have weakened the bill.

I do not believe the call to “Repeal and Replace” the Affordable Care Act is productive. I do urge the majority Republican leaders to invite their Democratic colleagues to participate in improving the ACA because affordable health care should be available for all United States citizens.
