A first for the Avenue of Flags

To the Editor:

Showing of 70 flags on Veteran’s Day weekend, Nov. 9 through 14, was a beautiful sight to behold. With the good help from American Legion Post 191 and Julie M., the job was done. The weather was great and I hope you all enjoyed the display.

The 14th of November we put the flags in the back of my pickup truck and then transferred them back to the flag trailer at Webster City Custom Meats. Webster City Custom Meats has done a great job with our two flag trailers since 1995.

I’d like to get a building already done at or near the Graceland Cemetery, or build a new metal pole barn at or near Graceland Cemetery to store our two flag trailers.

Every time we get the flag trailers for for displaying of flags, the cemetery department takes some of their equipment and stores it outside so we can put our trailers in the shop out of the weather. This usually lasts for a whole week. Then when we do the flags for July 4, the same thing happens again.

It is time for a change.
