To the Editor:

I would like to share why I feel Doug Timmons would be the best Sheriff for the residents of Hamilton County.

I have known Doug since the Spring of 2001. I was soon to graduate from Webster City HS and had chosen to attend Hawkeye Community College for Police Science. I had spoken with Doug’s mother, Linda, after church, multiple times. She encouraged me to meet Doug and ask about riding along with him.

I’ll never forget the day I met him. He was very welcoming and his laugh was infectious. We scheduled a time for me to ride along with him. I completed my first ride with him and realized there was so much more to Law Enforcement than just writing citations.

I ended up riding with Doug at least 40 times thru the next 2+ years. I have been with him while dealing with almost every situation a LE Officer will encounter. Drunk drivers, domestics, drug arrests, searches, traffic stops, calls for help, fire calls, medical calls, etc.

In each and everyone of those situations, Doug dealt with the suspects and victims in a very honest and sincere way. He handled the situations with an extremely professional demeanor.

I’ve been lucky enough to hunt and fish with Doug numerous times. We’ve hung out at the local campgrounds and speedway together. Doug is such a great supporter of these opportunities that Hamilton County offers. He truly loves his hometown and home county.

I see Doug as the type of Sheriff whom will continue to strive to make Hamilton County a safe and clean place for residents and visitors. He will always represent the people of Hamilton County in a professional and honest manner.

If you haven’t had a chance to speak with Doug, go do it. I really think you will leave the conversation feeling like you’ve made a friend, someone who will always be watching out for you.
