Thanks to all who made Pinewood Derby a success

To the Editor:

Saturday, March 15, 2014 was the Webster City Cub Scout Pinewood Derby race. I feel it was a huge success much in part to all of the volunteers who helped make it run smoothly. Thank you to the businesses and individuals who helped. The boys are the recipients of their generosity of items as well as time and talents.

Thank you to the following businesses: Fuhs Pastry, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Dollar General, Trophies Unlimited and Webster City Community Schools for the use of their gymnasium and custodial staff (Matt). Thank you also Scout leaders, parents, Troop 17 Boy Scouts, and other volunteers who donate their time and talents to help make scouting fun for the boys.

The Cub Scouts in Pack 583 and 585 should be commended for their hard work and dedication to the Cub Scout Motto “Do your best!” I saw such wonderful sportsmanship and poise in these young gentlemen. I loved seeing the positive behaviors and how each scout was rooting each other on and telling them “good job” or “nice racing.”

I also enjoyed the amount of spectators who came to enjoy watching the races. Thanks parents, grandparents, neighbors, aunts/uncles, brothers and sisters… if it weren’t for you, our scouts wouldn’t be able to participate in the scouting program. Our children are the future and your generosity, dedication and encouragement helps them thrive to become great scouts. Thanks to everyone who believes that scouting is beneficial and encourages youth to continue on year after year. Scouting is very rewarding for everyone involved.
