Spend time at the Ag Show

There’s much to see and learn and some good food as well

Make plans to spend some time at the 18th annual Farm News Ag Show. It kicks off Wednesday on the East Campus of Iowa Central Community College, 2031 Quail Ave. in Fort Dodge. On its first day, the show is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It resumes at 7:30 a.m. Thursday and runs until 3 p.m.

The show will appeal to those with even a casual interest in agriculture, but for those who want more in-depth information, it will showcase a wide array of agricultural products and services. More than 75 exhibitors will be on hand in the 30,000 square feet of show space. Their diverse offerings will be truly outstanding. There will be much on the show floor to expand attendees’ knowledge of options available today as well what’s on the drawing boards for tomorrow.

Food for thought is at the core of a successful exhibition. With that in mind, here are some of the speakers the show will feature:

• David Kruse, president of CommStock Investments and author of the CommStock Report, will speak from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday and will discuss “Time to Start WIN-ning.. the Ag Sector 2020 Election Recovery.”

• Kelvin Leibold, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach farm and ag business management specialist, will speak from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday. His topic: “How will you be impacted by the 2018 Farm Bill?”

• Jim Ladlie, founder and president of Profit Pro LLC, will speak from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday and will discuss managing manure issues.

• Elwynn Taylor, Iowa State University climatologist emeritus, will speak from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday and will discuss the 2020 weather outlook.

• Paul Mussman, AgWest Commodities president, will speak from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday and will discuss “Same Market Different View.”

• Brian Stevenson, general manager of B.Stevens Associates, will speak from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday and will discuss “Grow for a purpose: join the change in agriculture.”

Water will be served during the speaker presentations courtesy of Blue Ribbon Pelham Waters of Fort Dodge.

Intellectual stimulation will be complemented with an assortment of good food.

Lunch is available on-site by the Webster County Pork Producers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday and by the Webster County Beef Producers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meals will be served by the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance Ambassadors with the help of Iowa Central Community College agricultural students.

There will be a free pancake breakfast for the first 525 guests from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. The breakfast is catered by Chris Cakes and is sponsored by the Webster County Farm Bureau.

There will be a raffle for a chance to win one of two half hogs. Extra tickets can be bought at the Farm News booth at one for $5 or three for $10. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the Iowa Central Community College agriculture department scholarship fund. The hog will be provided by the Webster County Pork Producers Association and the processing will be provided by Lohrville Locker.
