Another successful citywide cleanup

Local residents take advantage of trash collection site Friday, Saturday

Hats off to the many volunteers and workers who helped make the citywide cleanup days on Saturday and Sunday another success.

We applaud the City of Webster City and the City Council for continuing to offer this opportunity to for local citizens to discard unwanted or unused items. It’s a great way to promote the beautification process throughout the community and to encourage personal responsibility for ones own property.

We’ve also heard several stories of neighbors pitching in to help those unable to move items to the collection site. Kudos to those folks for taking the time and effort to assist those in need of a helping hand.

This year, the temperatures soared into the high 90s, making the cleanup effort a bit more challenging. All the more reason to thanks those folks who braved the heat and humidity to haul their discarded items to the dropoff site at the Webster City Middle School.

Thanks also to the Webster City High School wrestling team for helping with the event. The group did much of heavy lifting at the collection site, making fast work of the project.

According to members of the council, approximately 10 containers were filled with trash and about five more with scrap metal.

The event just goes to show that when the community pulls together, great things happen.
