Bill Lilienthal

Bill Lilienthal, 85, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. The Lilienthal family will host a memorial reception from 2:00-5:00pm on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Rock River Retreat south of Webster City (1792 280th St.; Webster City).

William Henry Lilienthal was born on December 26, 1940, to Allen and Erna (Bockwoldt) Lilienthal in Davenport, Iowa. Bill was raised on his family’s farm and was active in 4-H. He graduated from Durant High School in 1958, married Linda (Linn) Drenter on November 2, 1963, and raised three daughters: Lisa, Denise, and Kristine. The family moved to the rural Duncombe area in 1981, where Bill worked as a farmer and later was employed by Van Diest Supply Company.

He was a constantly curious man, driven by causes close to his heart. From exploring our nation’s western history and promoting Iowa’s role in producing legendary whitetail deer to advocating for fairness in beef cattle pricing and investigating best practices in agronomy and horticulture … Bill appreciated a great story, reveled in lively debate, and cared deeply for nature’s beauty.

Family members left to honor his memory include his wife of 63 years, Linn; daughters: Lisa (Dave) Onstot of Granger, TX; Denise (Mark) Youngers of Waukee, IA; and Kris (Bill) Walker of Webster City; siblings: Cal (Nancy) Lilienthal of Solon, IA; and Sara (Jim) Orvick of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Lilienthal; and nephew Grant Lilienthal.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to the Iowa 4-H Foundation located at 1259 Stange Road, Ames, IA 50011-3630; the Kendall Young Library in Webster City (1201 Willson Ave), or left to the family’s discretion.
